New GOOD BAG For Kids™ healthy snack collections make it easier than ever for parents to fill tummies with nutritious nibbles. Dr. Natalie Geary, a pediatrician and company president, and Tammany Atkinson, COO, created GOOD BAG For Kids so children can have fun and tasty snacks any time, whether at home, the ball park or traveling. Dr. Geary is also an author and is deeply aligned with several non-profit children’s organizations. Tammany founded Bee’s Knees, a patented baby pant with neoprene padding that protects babies’ knees when they are crawling. CBT recently spoke with Tammany and got the scoop on this wholesome snacking innovation for the 21st century.
CBT: There are several varieties of GOOD BAG For Kids. What is in each bag and what is the pricing?
Tammany: Our bags have snacks for an entire day or they can be used as a shelf stable meal replacement when you are on the go. All products are natural, organic, nut-free and healthy, and are the next best thing to fresh food prepared at home. Each bag contains a protein, fruit, carbohydrate, sweet treat, organic fish oil, probiotic, collectible toy, and nutritional information. The travel bag has all those things and crayons and an activity booklet, a wristband for a cell phone number, and a vitamin mix drink pouch that you add to water. We also offer four gluten free bags. Our bags are $7.99 and the travel packs are $10.49.
Tammany: Children need to snack throughout the day to get their nutritional requirements. In fact, they get around 40 percent of their calories each day from snacks. It is very important that these snacks be nutritionally sound and provide the daily supplements children need.
CBT: When did you introduce your products?
Tammany: We have been in development for around four years and we launched the company about eight months ago.
CBT: Where are GOOD BAG For Kids manufactured?
Tammany: We found our food industry partners on the Inc. 500 list. We select products from the healthiest companies on the market, and they are chosen for ingredients, nutritional content, age range and food group. Our bags are assembled in our partner’s food facility in Georgia. They understand the concept because they were already doing something similar for seniors.
CBT: Have any celebrities endorsed your products?
Tammany: We sent bags to a few celebrity moms and have had some great feedback. Dr. Geary is a celebrity herself. She is co-author of the new book The South Beach Diet Gluten Solution, which was featured on Dr. Oz, The Today Show and Bill O’Reilly. She is the medical advisor to the Katie Ford Foundation and founded a charity for children called Mobile Pediatrics that provides health care, vaccines and health education to underprivileged children. Dr. Geary is on the board of Containers 2 Clinics, an organization that reduces maternal and child mortality in low income countries by providing access to health care. She is also quite connected on the social scene.
CBT: What is the status of your relationship with Let’s Move!?
Tammany: We love Let’s Move! and we line up with a lot of their initiatives. Let’s Move! is working hard for better food labeling and education, to improve the food in entertainment venues, and to make healthy food fun—which is exactly what we are all about!
We all want our kids to have the good life, especially when it comes to food and health, and Tammany’s commitment to the well being of children is palpable. She and Dr. Geary are dedicated to improving the health and lives of children.
