Vibrant and festive printed fabric, finished home décor products and much more are all part of Sis Boom by Jennifer Paganelli. Jennifer spent her childhood in St. Croix, the Virgin Islands, and many of her prints have a magical island feel. The Sis Boom collection includes over 200 fabric designs and downloadable PDF sewing patterns, so those who like to sew can get started right away; two published crafting books, Girl’s World and Happy Home, to provide even more inspiration; home decor products, like charming quilts and pillows; and whimsical accessories like the sunburst statement necklace. Jennifer honed her natural design talent while working at KnollTextiles in NYC, one of the largest textile suppliers in North America. CBT recently chatted with Jennifer, a dear friend of CBT expert Rachel Florio-Urso, who is a HUGE fan of her prints!
CBT: When did you launch your company?
Jennifer: The crafting component was developed in 1995 and we ran in Country Living magazine for 10 years with our crafting capabilities. In 2005, I came out with my first fabric line and it became a brand overnight.
CBT: Tell me a little about Sis Boom.
Jennifer: I love designing, creating, and seeing the finished product. We design embroidered pillows for Peking handicraft and fabric for FreeSpirit Fabric, and patterns for folks to make apparel with our fabrics. Our fabrics are known internationally and they take up the majority of our line. We love the process, and the quality is beyond anything you can find in our price range.
CBT: Why did you name your company Sis Boom?
Jennifer: It’s my childhood nickname. My twin brother coined the phrase, and it captures high energy and a summer vibe.
CBT: Who are some of the celebrities that use your products?
Jennifer: We’ve been told that Heidi Klum‘s daughter has a dress made with our fabric, and we were on Desperate Housewives. That was cool.
CBT: Where are your products made?
Jennifer: The products we create and hand make are done by us here in Connecticut and offered on Etsy. Other products are created overseas.
CBT: How will you be expanding in 2014?
Jennifer: We are going to go more mass market and add more patterns, and keep surprising our friends. We are so lucky that color is trending everywhere and that’s what we have always been about.
CBT: Do you have plans to write another book?
Jennifer: Right now, I have no intentions to do more books but you never know. These books took two years to come to market so it is a very long and involved process. I love these because they are timeless and they have been in the top 100 for sewing books on amazon for the past three years so that is really rewarding.
CBT: Where can folks buy your products?
Jennifer: Our products are sold on our website and on Etsy by googling Jennifer Paganelli pillows or fabric. Our fabric is also in many local shops, and we have a locator function on our website to help people find the closest brick and mortar.
