At For Two Fitness®, fashion meets function for active moms-to-be. The company is owned by husband and wife team Marjorie and James Stiegler, who are also the proud parents of two children. Marjorie contributes to creative decisions and has a background as a fitness professional, and James, CEO, is a graduate of the UCLA Anderson School of Management. CBT spoke with Marjorie about why she and James launched the company, and how it fills a need in the marketplace.
CBT: Why did you launch For Two Fitness?
Marjorie: We created the company in 2009 when I first became pregnant. I saw a huge void in the market for attractive and functional maternity wear for active women. In 2010 when For Two Fitness apparel hit the market, pregnant women were finally being served in a completely new way. We offer high performance athletic wear, without sacrificing quality or fashion, with flattering and flexible details that last the entire pregnancy and beyond. Plus, we add an element of fun with our unique, proprietary slogans and graphics that you just can’t get anywhere else.
CBT: Who designs your line of apparel?
Marjorie: All of our garments are designed by our in house team. We focus on accommodating a woman’s changing body throughout the entire pregnancy and postpartum period. Unlike other maternity retailers, we actually want our clothes to fit for all nine months. Women won’t outgrow our apparel, not even late in the third trimester, and they will never look anything less than fabulous! Editors at top fitness magazines like Shape and Oxygen have taken notice of For Two Fitness, as well as pregnancy oriented media like Pregnancy & Newborn.
CBT: What types of clothing do you offer?
Marjorie: We have technical performance wear separates like pants, capris, shorts, tanks, tees, jackets, and accessories. They are made with premium fabrics from the same suppliers as top-end athletic houses, including industry leaders like Supplex® and Lycra®. We select our fabrics for maximum performance and comfort.
CBT: Many celebrities own For Two Fitness apparel, including Gwen Stefani, Ali Landry, Josie Maran, and Melissa Rycroft, who debuted her baby bump on USMagazine.com in a For Two Fitness outfit. What are a couple of your most popular items and why?
Marjorie: Our racerback tank line is a huge seller because it is so versatile and flattering. The Ultimate Maternity Fitness Pant and Capri are also enormously popular. A micro plush interior and top grade Supplex exterior make these functional for any activity, including lounging. They have enough compression and support to give a sleek and lean look, and the three-way belly panel hugs just enough but is never too tight.
CBT: Where is your company located?
Marjorie: For Two Fitness has primary locations in Los Angeles and Raleigh, North Carolina. Production is done primarily in LA, in the heart of the garment district, with independent factories. Our administrative offices are in North Carolina. We support jobs across the United States with contractors, consultants and collaborators on both coasts and in the heartland.
CBT: How can people buy your apparel?
Marjorie: People can buy our apparel online at www.fortwofitness.com and it is also sold in select independent boutiques. We have a store locator on our website to help them find a local shop.
Thanks to For Two Fitness’ line of apparel, mommies-to-be will never have to wear ill-fitting and unflattering active wear again. Whether running, practicing yoga, or simply relaxing, the clothing stresses fashion, form, and fit.
